Garment workers of Naryanganj have declared to lay siege on the houses and cars of factory owners if festival allowances are not paid before Eid which is likely to fall on Sep 10 or 11.
Bangladesh Textile Garments Workers' Federation's Narayanganj unit announced the programme at Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal office at Rail Gate, Narayanganj on Tuesday.
A written statement said some factory owners were trying to get away from paying the festival allowances.
The statement added that the workers would go for stronger agitation if they were not duly paid by Eid.
The statement also said the workers demanded arrest of the owners who have so far refused to pay their wages and allowances.
Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturer and Exporters Association (BKMEA) vice-president A H Aslam Sani told bdnews24.com that the government and BKMEA had asked the owners to pay festival allowances by Sep 8.
"Due wages and allowances have already been paid in ninety percent factories following the order. I hope the other workers will be paid by Wednesday," Sani said.
He also said the statement did not have any ground and was only meant for spreading cheap propaganda.
