A committee looking into Grameen Bank (GB) operations is expected to
submit its report to Finance Minister AMA Muhith today, officials said.
The
government formed the five-member committee on January 10, headed by
Prof AK Monowar Uddin Ahmed, who teaches economics at Dhaka University.
Contacted, Prof Ahmed told The Daily Star that the submission of the report would be confirmed in the morning.
Ahmed
said the report contains different types of recommendations. “The
government may accept the recommendations completely or partially. It
is up to the government,” he said.
The committee was tasked with
reviewing a documentary aired by a Norwegian television station and
subsequent media reports on transfer of funds from Grameen Bank to
Grameen Kalyan and interest rates on the micro-financier's loans.
