Amateur golfers made hosts Bangladesh proud on the seventh day of the 11th South Asian Games as they clinched the gold medal in the golf team event at Kurmitola Golf Course on Thursday.
It was the fifth gold for the hosts, who had elated with gold medals in women's and men's 10m air rifles team event, 10m air rifles individual event and 77kg category weightlifting event and the national flag was hoisted once again with a background music of national anthem.
The Bangladesh team comprising Jamal Hossain Mollah, Dulal Hossain and Sohel, who all came from underprivileged group, together scored 422, 13 points less than silver medalist India. Sri Lanka won the bronze medal with 447 points.
In 36-hole team's competition, Jamal led the way to take seven strokes less to make 137 scores followed by Dulal, who also took three strokes less to score 141 while Sohel took standard 144 strokes to finish the stipulated holes in two round play.
