Rajshahi University (RU) students demanded immediate steps to bring the war criminals to justice and staged a daylong cultural programme recently. A symbolic hanging of the killers of Bangabandhu and war criminals, terming them "enemies of the nation", was also staged at the programme.
Some 500 students under the banner of 'Amra Muktijoddhar Shontan', an organisation of the offspring of Freedom Fighters, gathered at the Central Library premises and staged the symbolic hanging amid slogans against war criminals who committed heinous crimes during the Liberation War in 1971.
Former Vice-Chancellor of RU, Professor Saidur Rahman Khan and Professor Moloy Kumar Bhowmik, among others, attended the programme.
Students also recited poems and presented patriotic songs on the occasion.
Convenor of 'Amra Muktijoddhar Shontan' Jinnah Al-Mamun; Mizanur Rahman Mithu, Aktaruzzman Kabir, Masud Rana Mintu and Redwan Ahmed Shubhro took part in a rally.
Later, 'Amra Muktijoddhar Shontan' launched a month-long mass signature campaign in front of the Central Library, demanding trial and punishment of the war criminals.
