The employees of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Ltd are demonstrating at the head office of the national flag carrier since Tuesday morning terming the new pay scale unsatisfactory.
Sources said the agitation began in the morning and the permanent employees' fear of being deprived of pension benefits added fuel to the protest.
"We have come to know that we, the permanent employees will not be entitled to get pension benefit. We fear that we will be given the pension facility as what a contractual employee gets. It cannot be accepted," a general manager of Biman said seeking anonymity.
The agitating employees also assaulted Biman's secretary and kept its managing director confined in his office for hours.
Biman management however sat in a meeting with the representatives of employees' unions to ease the situation, said an assistant to Biman managing director and chief executive officer.
Early this week, Biman Board of Directors approved the pay scale for employees who had been demanding hike in their salaries since the announcement of new pay scale for public sector employees.
