The investigation committee, formed to look into the murder of Bangladesh Chhatra League's (BCL) Rajshahi University activist Nasrulla Nasim, have identified six students responsible.

The investigation committee, formed to look into the murder of Bangladesh Chhatra League's (BCL) Rajshahi University activist Nasrulla Nasim, have identified six students responsible.

They are Shah Makhdum Hall residents Zahurul Islam of public administration, Zahidul Islam of social work, Lutfar Rahman of zoology, Taufiqul Islam of Bengali, Ruhul Amin of political science and Mashiur Rahman of psychology.

The investigation report, submitted to the hall provost on Aug 31 and forwarded to the vice-chancellor on Thursday, mentioned the students as BCL activists and said they had beaten up Nasim and flung him off the first floor of the dormitory.

The university administration formed the five-member investigative committee on Aug 16.

Nasim was flung off the first floor on Aug 15 over a trivial matter regarding Iftar.

The fourth year bachelors student of history, died on Aug 23 at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital after eight days of treatment.

According to the report, Zahurul, Lutfar and Zahidul went to the hall office to collect Iftar receipts. Nasim, present at the office, engaged in an altercation with them over distribution of the extra 'coupons'.

Nasim ran towards his room on the first floor as his rivals threatened to shoot 20 him in the head. He was suddenly stopped as Zahidul hit him on left jaw with an iron rod. Lutfar hammered him, Zahurul hit on back of his head with a brick-bat, Taufiqul hit his head with cricket stump and Ruhul beat him with bare hands.

After that, they threw Nasim off the first floor by which time Mashiur had joined the fray, the report said.

The committee chief Ruhul Amin told bdnews24.com that the report was prepared with much effort. "We tried to arrive at the truth in the probe. We had to record the deposition of 101 witnesses."

He also said the committee had urged steps under the existing laws of the university.

Following the incident, the central BCL unit expelled president and general secretary of the university on Aug 24.

Nasim was the only child of Mohammad Moslem Uddin and Jannatun Nesa of Chaknarand village under Mallikpur Union of Chapainawabganj's Shibganj Upazila.

The police on Aug 15 arrested Ruhul Amin and one 'Saeed' for their alleged involvement.

BCL RU general secretary was arrested earlier on Aug 7 following a clash which left 10 students injured, including one with a bullet injury. The president has been in hiding since then.
