Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 150-megawatt Peaking Power Plant at Shikalbaha in Patiya of Chittagong on Wednesday.
The state run power plant has been set up at a cost of Tk 575 crore to ease power crisis in the port city to a great extent, reports our staff correspondent in Chittagong.
UNB adds: Inaugurating the power plant, the prime minister said she firmly believed that her government would be able to resolve the power crisis in the country.
The present government inherited the power crisis from the previous BNP-Jamaat government, as they did not do anything for producing power, she said.
Hasina further said the immediate past caretaker government also remained silent about the increase of power generation.
“The demand for power increased each day over the last seven years. The present government has taken short, medium and long term initiatives to resolve the power crisis. Through these steps, I hope, we will be able to mitigate the crisis.”
She also said that her government has taken steps to extract more gas to increase supply to the gas-based power plants.
Earlier, Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Manjur Alam received the prime minister when she arrived at Maijjartek in Patiya.
