A Dhaka court gave the Criminal Investigation Department a time extension on Wednesday, up to April 21, for its investigation into the Pilkhana killings during the BDR mutiny last year.
Metropolitan magistrate in Dhaka AKM Enamul Haque gave the new date for submission of the investigation report after investigation officer, the CID's Abdul Kahhar Akand, appealed for more time on Wednesday as the charge sheet in the criminal case was due.
Over 70 people, including 57army officers deputed to the BDR force, were killed during the Feb 25-26 mutiny at the border force's Pilkhana headquarters.
While mutiny charges, carrying a maximum penalty of seven years, are being tried in special BDR courts, a criminal case will be pressed against the killers who face the maximum sentence of death if convicted.
