A Dhaka court today sent former shipping secretary Ismail Zabiullah to jail in a graft case in which he faces a sentence of 13 years in jail.
Judge Sirajul Islam of the Special Court-7 passed the order rejecting Zabiullah's bail petition that he submitted to the court in person.
The court on June 5 in 2008 sentenced Zabiullah to 10 years in jail for amassing wealth illegally and three years for hiding wealth information in his wealth statement submitted to the ACC.
The court had sentenced his wife Ayesha Zabiullah to three years' imprisonment for abetting him in accumulating wealth illegally.
His sentence would come into effect on the day of his arrest or surrender, the court had said.
ACC Assistant Director Helal Uddin Sharif filed the case against him with Ramna Police Station on November 5 in 2007.
According to the first information report, Zabiullah accumulated Tk 1.29 crore beyond his known sources of income and also concealed information about his wealth worth Tk 1.16 crore in the wealth statement.
Charges were framed against the couple on April 7 this year.
