The first day of the indefinite blockade, enforced by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chittagong University (CU) unit, forced the suspension of classes and examinations on the campus yesterday.
Two railway staffs and two students, allegedly loyal to Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) CU unit, were injured in two separate incidents during the blockade, sources said.
The agitating BCL activists pelted brickbats at the engine of a university-bound shuttle train at Jhawtala Railway Station at around 7.15pm.
Train's Loco-master Idris Mian and his assistant Golam Mawla were injured in the incident.
They stopped the train at Sholoshahar Railway Station that stopped plying of all shuttle trains between the city and the campus, sources added. The injured were sent to Railway Hospital for medication.
Meanwhile, the BCL men barred all buses and minibuses carrying teachers and students at city's Muradpur Intersection and Sholoshahar Gate No 2.
They also assaulted two students at Fateyabad Railway Station at around 1.45pm.
Of them, Yakub, a student of political science department, was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) while the identity of another one could not be known immediately.
The BCL announced the indefinite strike to press home their eight-point demand including punishment to the attackers on their mourning procession on Saturday.
Their demands also include cancellation of the Syndicate decision to expel four BCL activists and unconditional release of their arrested party men, cancellation of the probe committee comprising teachers 'loyal to Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP', resignation of vice- chancellor and proctor, removal of Hathazari Police Station officer-in-charge and punishment to the attackers.
Mentionable, separate clashes between the BCL and ICS CU units left at least 15 leaders and activists of both the organisations injured on the university campus and city on Saturday.
The unruly ICS men torched five compartments of a shuttle train and Jilani Hotel in front of Shah Amanat Hall on the campus following the clashes. They vandalised the hotel as the son of the hotel owner is loyal to BCL.
