Another dies, fire toll rises to 119

A middle-aged woman, severely wounded in the Nimtoli fire late last week, died on Monday at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka, taking the death toll from the blaze to 119.

A middle-aged woman, severely wounded in the Nimtoli fire late last week, died on Monday at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka, taking the death toll from the blaze to 119.

Sokhina, 35, succumbed to her wounds at about 12:00noon at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital, Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) authorities confirmed to The Daily Star.

The victim along with 13 others was shifted to the CMH from Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Friday.

Of them, seven-year-old Saim died Sunday afternoon.

Some 25 victims are undergoing treatment at the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit at the DMCH.

Scores of people, mostly women and children, were burned alive and many others wounded Thursday night in the country’s worst blaze since its independence at the densely populated old part of the Dhaka city.
