A sedition case witness, apprehending threat to his life, has filed general dairies (GDs) with the city's 12 police stations against 11 of Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury's family members and BNP leaders.

Abu Taher Uddin filed general diaries with Kotwali, Panchlaish, Doublemooring, Chandgaon, Bandar, Khulshi, Bayezid, Bakolia, Halishahar, Pahartali, Karnaphuli and Patenga police stations on Saturday night, corresponding officers-in-charge confirmed bdnews24.com.

Taher filed the general diaries against Quader Chowdhury's wife Farhat Quader Chowdhury, two sons Faiyaz Quader and Hummam Quader, brothers Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury, Saifuddin Quader Chowdhury and Jamal Uddin Quader Chowdhury, and BNP leaders Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Shahadat Hossain, Aslam Chowdhury, Ershad Ullah and Abul Hashem Raju.

"Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury's followers attacked the plaintiff (Taher) on the Chittagong district court premises on Jan 19 when he was going to give testimony in the sedition case against Salahuddin," the general dairies said.

Next hearing in the case is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, Apr 26.

"The defendants and their followers may attack me on Tuesday (Apr 26) again," a witness and plaintiff of the case Taher added in the diaries.

He appealed to respective authorities to take legal action against the accused mentioned in the GDs.

Awami League supporter and a businessman Abu Taher had filed the sedition case aginst Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury in the Chittagong District Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on Dec 3, 2009.

Later, on Dec 23, 2009, Fatikchhari police chief Mohammad Mofizuddin filed another case against the reckless BNP standing committee member on Tuesday night for making derogatory comments on the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The home ministry acknowledged the case as that of sedition under Section 124 and Penal Code 505 on Nov 28.

The complaint says, Chowdhury at a BNP rally on Nov 20, 2009 last year said: "August 15 is an important day in the nation's life. On this day, the nation was freed from one-party rule. If August 15 had not happened, the people would not get back their right to vote."

He also commented on the trial of Bangabandhu murder, saying, "The nation did not accept the verdict. But we have much to learn from the murder."

Mofizuddin had said the comments were provocative and seditious.

Earlier, one resident from Fatikchhari on Dec 3 last year filed a sedition case against Chowdhury on the same issue, which was approved on Oct 7 this year.

The maverick political leader was arrested on Dec 16 last year in connection with an arson attack on a private car that caused the death of a commuter on June 26, a day before a BNP-sponsored shutdown.

Later, the standing committee member was on Dec 19 shown arrested in a war crimes case.
