Hearing on charge framing in the Zia Orphanage Trust fund embezzlement
case against the opposition BNP chief, her son and four others, has
been deferred for the seventh time.
Dhaka's Third Special
Judge Mozammel Hossain on Monday set June 23 for the next hearing as
defendants' lawyers pleaded for time.
They told the court that they needed time as their petition with the High Court for the case's quashing was underway.
The
case, filed with the Ramna police station on July 3, 2008, accuses BNP
chairperson Khaleda Zia, her son Tarique Rahman and four others of
embezzling more than Tk 20 million from the trust, which allegedly
existed only on paper.
Charges in the case were pressed on Aug 5 the same year.
Among
the others accused, Sharfuddin Ahmed and former BNP MP Quazi Salimul
Haq Kamal were present at the court. BNP founder late president Ziaur
Rahman's nephew Mominur Rahman and former bureaucrat Dr Kamaludddin
Siddiqui are absconding.
