The High Court directed the government not to torture former BNP state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar after taking him on remand in former finance minister SAMS Kibria murder case.

The HC bench of Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana and Justice Md Raise Uddin passed the direction upon a writ petition filed by Babar.

Babor’s wife Tahamina Zaman recently filed the petition with the HC on behalf of Babar challenging the remand prayer moved by the officials of Criminal Investigation Department.

CID police on January 28 this year filed an application with a Habiganj court seeking permission to take Babar on a 10-day remand.

Lutfozzaman Babar was shown arrested on February 2 in the case filed in connection with the assassination of Awami League leader SAMS Kibria on January 27, 2005.
