Awe-inspiring Nogordola

NOGORDOLA, has since its inception made sincere efforts in highlighting the crafts of Bengal. Darushilpo engravings on wood panel is an art that has almost gone into oblivion. Artisans who made a living from the practice of such art are gradually disappearing.
Inspired from the designs of darushilpo, Nogordola has come up with brilliant patterns and motifs for the Boishakhi collection. Elaborate uses of screen print, block print, embroidery, karchupi, sequins and beads have been made to bring out the desired effect. This Boishakh, Nogordola welcomes the New Year in style. Available at Nogordola outlets in Dhanmondi and Gulshan.
Reela
REELA opened their second outlet at Banani Road # 11 on Friday, 13 March 2009. Before the inauguration of this outlet, Reela had their solitary showroom at New DOHS, Mohakhali. The fashion boutique is owned by Nimla Ahmed Musa, and managed by her three daughters- Mantasha, Mehreen and Tazreen Ahmed. All of them have a flair for fashion, which they hope to fully utilise through the boutique.
Mantasha Ahmed, explains her and her sisters' penchant for coming up with fashion ideas, “When we were young our mother used to make most of our clothes herself, and she did so in beautiful designs. We used to buy laces from shops, but she sowed them herself. I guess we picked up some of her designer attributes,” said Ahmed, who has also held exhibitions in London.
These were all contributing factors in the decision to enter the fashion market. The availability of good tailors was also important, and according to Ahmed, Reela enjoys the services of skilled tailors who were trained by the sisters.
The boutique at Banani is mainly focused on selling casuals and party-wear. The price of casuals start from Tk 1200, while the party outfits range from Tk 3000 to Tk 8000. Their Mohakhali showroom makes the clothes to order, focusing especially on wedding wear (saris, jamdanis for bridal wear and sherwanis for grooms).
“We focus a lot on fusion of styles. In many other boutiques, fatuas are usually sold as casual wear. Here, we sell fatuas that can be used for casual wear, but we also have fatuas that can be worn at parties,” Ahmed added.
The boutique is housed in two rooms, one for casual and the other for party-wear. Its opening day generated quite a crowd, with interested customers engrossed in browsing and buying the fresh fashion items on display. With such a close-knit family governing the business, it seems likely that they will enjoy such interested clientele for years to come.
